How to Get Your Kids to Send Thank You Notes

My children know that for every gift they take in, a thank you card goes out. This year my daughter asked if she could send thank you cards by e-mail. While I send on-line greetings all the time, thank you notes are different, especially when it comes to the kids.

I know from experience that once writing thank you notes is a routine, it’s not so hard to get them done. I just make sure we have plenty of cute cards on hand and keep a list so we don’t forget anyone. I put a time on the calendar, usually New Year’s Day or the weekend after, and we put on a DVD and write.

When my daughters were really young I had them make their own cards because I had to do all the writing and I know those cards were truly appreciated. Creative kids can make their thank you notes into mini-masterpieces with this Paint Your Own Greeting Card Set ($18). They can either paint by numbers or create their own designs. And for that final personal touch, tuck a photo inside.
