The Best Mother’s Day Gifts for the Eco Mama
Category: Mother's Day Eco-Friendly Mom
Some compact fluorescent light bulbs. A big box of eco-friendly cleaning products. Just kidding! No mom wants to focus on cleaning and changing light bulbs on her day. Here are some eco choices that are a little more fun:

Sustainable Flowers (20 stems for $39.95): These gerber daisies will brighten anyone’s day, and knowing that they were grown responsibly is all the better. Flowers from Organic Style are Veriflora certified by Scientific Certification Systems which means they meet high standards in terms of their sustainable crop production, ecosystem protection, fair labor practices and more. The flowers are also wrapped in a biodegradable corn-based sleeve.
Organic Bath Company Pomegranate Fig Instant Spa Kit ($27.58): This spa kit includes high quality products that smell divine. Organic Bath Company uses recycled and recyclable materials in their packaging and strives to produce and distribute their products with the least possible negative environmental impact. They use certified organic ingredients wherever possible. This set includes Better Body Butter, Sea Mineral Bath Soak, Replenishing Body Polish, a Spa Cloth, Daily Body Wash, and Bubble Bath Petals.
Recycled Vinyl Bag ($57): These bags are made from discarded vinyl billboards. Since the vinyl does not break down, reusing it is a much better alternative than letting it sit in a landfill. Since vinyl is strong and waterproof, it is perfect for bags. Each bag is one of a kind, but they all have a zipper pocket on the front, top flap with velcro and compartments inside.
Green Mom Tee from Peace Love Mom ($38): Made of 100% organic cotton of course. A comfy shirt with a cool design and message.
Carbon Offset Gift Card. Well, this is not exactly fun but it will do a lot of good. Climate change is the big one when it comes to environmental issues. So giving Mom some offsets is going to get the most benefit for your money. You buy the offsets and your money is used to produce clean energy, offsetting the carbon that your energy use generates. A two ton Gift Card is $11, while a ten ton is $55.

The Best Mother’s Day Gifts for Techie Moms
Category: Mother's Day Electronics
I’m a techie by trade, so my nerdiness comes naturally. To me, there’s no better Mother’s Day gift than a clever gadget, and I know I’m not alone. Just because you’re a mom doesn’t mean you can’t be a proud geek as well. Here are some of my favorite techie finds:
Sony T2 Digital Still Camera ($350): As the self-appointed family documentarian, I always carry a camera. Check my blog, there’s no event I deem too minor to be photographed. I love Sony’s T2 Digital Still Camera not only because it’s so small, light, and portable, but it takes fabulous pictures. It has 8.1 megapixels, which provide incredibly sharp photos, especially if you get a shot so great that you want it blown up large. It has SteadyShot optical image stabilization that prevents blur and enables you to get a sharp shot on the go. The touch-screen operation makes it absolutely a snap to use (if you’ll pardon the pun). But the two things that appeal to the utter geek in me is the Face Detection technology (which automatically recognizes a face and adjusts your focus, exposure, color and flash accordingly) and the Smile Shutter Mode, which will shoot automatically when your subject laughs, smiles or even grins. Tell dad that this makes a perfect gift, as he can even have it engraved for free now through May 14.
iJoy 130 Massage chair ($750): Now, I know the iJoy Massage Chair is not cheap. But in my opinion, the iJoy is worth every penny and you, mama, totally deserve it. After trying this chair at a friend’s house, I put it on the top of my Christmas list. It is seriously one of the best gifts I’ve ever received. This chair’s motors (rather miraculously) simulate the hands, arms, and wrists of a trained massage therapist, with different pre-programs to choose for a complete back massage. This is no wimpy massage chair—you really feel it when you’re done. I love that I can plop down and capture a five-minute break or a half-hour break—it’s there for me no matter what time I have. And when you think about the pampering you allow yourself now verses before you had kids, the price is totally justified.
Clarisonic Skincare Brush ($195): A friend recently told me, in all seriousness, that every woman should schedule a professional facial at least twice a month. This friend also didn’t have children. Even if I could justify $90 twice a month for a facial (the going rate here in Chicago), how I would find the time to escape for such a luxury is another question altogether.
I’ve found that the Clarisonic Skincare Brush is the answer to gorgeous, glowing skin for busy moms on a budget. This soft, gentle brush both deep cleans and exfoliates, giving you skin that positively glows. Since I started using my Clarisonic, I’ve noticed that all of my tried-and-true skincare products (like moisturizers and serums) work so much better. I can’t understate the difference in my skin since I started using it, especially as someone with sensitive skin. Tell your husband that you’ll be saving hundreds on spa facials with this gift.
Apple iPhone: ($399 - $499): I know I’m not exactly breaking news by recommending the iPhone. (I mean, what self-respecting techie hasn’t at least played with an iPhone at the Apple store?) I’m just saying that if you’ve debated getting one and need that extra nudge, this is one awesome gadget.
The iPhone is the bridge between my personal life as a mom and my professional life as a designer. When I’m in mom mode, I can still check and reply to emails without retreating to my laptop. And when I’m in work mode, all of my contacts and numbers are in one easy place. I use it to check Web sites, schedule playdates, maintain shopping lists, look up maps, and even snap photos on the go. When we’re stuck in traffic, and my little boy is fussy, I just cue up an episode of Dora, and he’s happy again. My iPhone has become an essential tool in my daily life. Believe the hype.
Are you a techie mom? What do you want for Mother’s Day?
Deal of the Day: Bring Home Derek Jeter…in a Bottle
Category: Dad Deal of the Day

What: Deals on Derek Jeter Driven and Driven Black
Why: Being from Boston, it kind of hurts me to say that I really, really like both the Derek Jeter Driven and the new Driven Black men’s fragrance and grooming lines at Avon-, and so does my San Francisco Giants fan husband. Trust me, you don’t have to love or even like the NY Yankees to love these products. Driven is a clean, spicy citrus and Black is a sexy, woodsy oriental. Both have nothing but five star ratings at Avon.com from women and men.
And there’s no better time than now to try them. For day, my guy says the Driven deodorant and body spray are both terrific, and he works outside in the Florida sun. They’re each on sale for $8.50. For a night out, you can’t go wrong with Black and right now if you purchase the eau de toilette for $26, you get a full-size after shave conditioner and body wash, an $18.50 value, free. Talk about a home run!
