Learn Your U.S. Geography for the 4th of July
Category:
Children
You’re never too young to learn about all the states. And you’ve seen those random folks on late night talk shows who make a fool of themselves because they don’t know the capital of California! Here are a couple of fun finds for the kids just in time for Independence Day.
America Bib and Burp Cloth Set ($36): This America Bib and Burp cloth set is so droolicious, you won’t have to take it off baby when it’s time to snap photos. The reversible, soak-proof set features images of the 50 states on the front and a solid green print on the reverse.
Eeboo USA Bingo Game ($13.99): Here’s a fun game for the entire family—bingo with a cool twist. Instead of calling out numbers, you call out the name of the states. Each player gets a card with a different region of the country, and the first person to fill the card wins.
Mudpuppy Map of the USA Floor Puzzle ($15): Teach your kids the names and fun facts about US states, and help them develop fine motor and pre-reading skills. Lively illustrations by Kaori Watanabe depict landmarks that make each state special, and the jumbo pieces are easy to put together—and hard to lose!

- Davek Portable Umbrella for Those Random Summer Showers
Summer showers can strike at any moment. You may leave the house to a sunny, cloudless day and come home in the pouring rain. Keeping an umbrella in your purse at all times is a good idea, but they’re usually bulky, awkward, and hard to keep track of.

Dad Find: A Sure-Fire Winner for the Barbecue King
Category:
Dad Food
What: Steaks and More from Omaha Steaks
Why: Today, families all over will be breaking out the barbecue and there’s a good chance that a man will be there tongs in hand, flipping the burgers and basting the chicken breasts. It seems even guys who don’t know their way around a microwave seem to become Bobby Flay Junior at the sight of a grill. We say more power to any man who lets us relax for a few minutes while they take over dinner duty.
And what better way to keep your guy cooking then by ordering him stuff to grill from
Omaha Steaks.
From burgers to brauts and pork to porterhouse, Omaha Steaks has it, including packages like
The Weekender with top sirloin steaks, hamburgers and hot dogs for $49.99. And if red meat isn’t his thing, there are also chicken and seafood samplers.
Find it: omahasteaks.com
Deal Alert: Right now with any order you will get six free hamburgers, a knife set and cutting board.

Deal of the Day: DVD Sale For When You’re Stuck Inside
Category:
Movies Deal of the Day

What: Discovery Channel Store Semi-Annual DVD Sale
Why: Everyone loves summer - except when nature ruins your plans. Is there anything worse than having to tell your child that the trip to the beach, park or pool is off because of bad weather? You can make the bad news a little bit easier to take by having a back-up plan, but you have to prepare ahead.
Throw some blankets and pillows on the floor, break out the snacks (always have snacks, I learned that during hurricane watch here in Florida). Then pull out a brand new DVD you just happen to have for the occasion. Now it’s Movie Day.
You can stock up on emergency DVDs and your family’s favorites at the
Discovery Channel’s Store Semi-Annual DVD Sale
. I’m a sucker for
Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl
that they air every Super Bowl Sunday. The DVDs are just $4.99 and feature the cutest dogs on any planet and my favorite, Kitty Cat Half-Time. You can also get a DVD of the popular preschool show
Ready Set Learn
on sale for $9.99.
There are DVDs on dinosaurs, arctic animals, and Oprah’s favorite Planet Earth, all on sale. And especially for us, six hours of tapered jeans and oversized sweatshirts on The Learning Channel’s
What Not To Wear: Mom Makeovers
($19.99).
