Mom Find: These Hips Don’t Lie
Category:
Fitness
What: HOOPNOTIC - Hula Hoop & DVD Fitness Work-Out
Why: When I received my shimmery hula hoop and DVD in the mail, I felt like a kid again. I couldn’t wait to start playing around with my daughters and showing them that their Mama was cool. I remembered all the fun I had as a young girl trying to spin the hula hoop off my neck and arms...I had the energy then. Of course, I lost most of that energy after having four kids, two dogs and a husband.
Three months ago, I decided to try alternative forms of fitness to get myself ready for the summer. Good luck! I joined the YMCA, I started walking, I tried Hot Yoga (it’s the same as stretching in my hot garage), I Salsa danced and now I hula hoop thanks to a really fresh and updated form of work-out by
Hoopnotica. My hips are thanking me for it, and they don’t lie. Within a few days my tummy felt tighter and flatter. I was having fun and working out with my kids too.
Hoopnotica classes are available in Los Angeles and are BIG with the celebrities. They have Travel Hulas, Glow in The Dark Hulas, Candy Colored Hulas and more. The DVD’s are energetic and fun.
Check it out.
Price: Range from $39.95 - $99.95 for the Starter Kit.

Mom Find: MBT Sandals for Summer - Tone, While You Walk
Category:
Fitness Mom Fashion Shoes
What: MBT Sandals
Why: By now you’ve seen or likely heard of these Swiss-made shoes with the physiological benefits of toning hard-to-tone muscles while you walk. Now in sandal form, you can spend the summer running errands—instead of running—and still look great. The trick is the sole, which can only be compared to a mini stability ball that forces you to flex calf, thigh and butt muscles even while you’re simply standing in the grocery check out line. They cost a mint, but figure if you spend your entire summer (and summers to come) in them, and every time you wear them you’re working those muscles, they’ll pay for themselves in less than a season.
Also, unlike the
MBT sneakers which are, frankly, a whole lotta shoe, these are actually cute and you don’t notice the mondo platform soles so much. The insole is a buttery soft suede, and they are airy and breathable, so the comfort rating is up there.
Price: $240

Mom Find: Get Sexy Legs with Earth Sandals
Category:
Fitness Mom Fashion Shoes
What: Earth Elara Sandals
Why: Around this time last year we did a
Trend Alert on fitness shoes that tone your legs with each step you take—think
MBTs
and
FitFlops
—and the trend is still going strong. It’s no surprise; who doesn’t want sexy legs?
Here’s another shoe to add to your arsenal of fitness shoes, and it’s not as obvious as the other two. The
Earth Elara Sandal
looks like an ordinary leather sandal, but it’s anything but. Using a negative heel technology that places your toes higher than your heel, it forces you to push a little harder to step forward, giving your calves a good workout and making you burn more calories. Another benefit is that you stand a little taller and straighter. You’ll feel good wearing them right out of the box. Imagine all this, and no one would even know. You can sneak in a workout even when you’re dressed in a cute summer dress.
Choose from red, brown, black and white.
Price: $119

Mom Find: Step It Up with MBT Sneakers
Category:
Fitness
What: MBT Sneakers
Why: Just because I’m not making it to the gym much these days doesn’t mean that I’m lazy. Far from it. I think I’m much more active now—hauling around a 30-lb. toddler—than I ever was in my halcyon 20’s when I never missed a spinning class.
Not getting to the gym means making the best of the time that I do have to get some exercise.
Shoes from MBT are a great way to make sure you get in your workout without even leaving the house. These innovative shoes really do give you an amazing workout. Wear them as you run errands, school pickups, and as you haul laundry up and down steps and you’ll start feeling muscles you forgot you even had. After time, your legs and butt will look much more toned. While they’re not cheap, they are
well worth the investment when you weigh the benefits. Especially when you consider that you can finally cancel that lapsed gym membership.
Price: starting at $200

Top Five: Put the “Om” in Mom
Category:
Fitness Mom
Right before I got pregnant, I started practicing yoga. I credit yoga with helping me have a great pregnancy—and giving me the strength to birth a nine-pound baby when the time came. It became my path to feeling human again post-birth and a welcome respite from my busy week. Here are some of my favorite accessories for my practice.
Om Yoga Today
($13.57): So, you think you don’t have time to do yoga? Can you find 30 minutes in your day? Maybe 15? At least five, right? This book includes different practices no matter how much—or how little—time you have. The spiral binding means it lays flat on your floor, making it a great companion for mid-day sessions.
The Kids’ Yoga Deck ($14.95): Yoga can be something that’s fun to do together with your children as well. This fun deck of cards includes 50 different poses and games. There are playful poses such as Cat, Flower, Airplane, and Gorilla—as well as partner poses that can be performed with friends—to teach kids the basics of yoga.
Bella B Natural Body Care Tummy to Toes Feet & Leg Revitalizer
($16.11): After you stretch out all those tired muscles, they will need some TLC. Just massage this creamy lotion into your tired muscles. —the cooling sensation and fresh scent of citrus and mint will soothe your tired muscles.
Yoto Bags: Almost as important as creating healthy habits like practicing yoga is looking stylish while you do. Yoto Bags are as lovely as they are practical. Available in a variety of different beautiful patterns and colors, these bags easily allow you to trasport your bag, with outside pockets to help you stash everything from your cell phone to your keys. $65 (Use coupon code “momfinds” to take 15% off your purchase!)
Tees for a Change: One of the best things about yoga is its beautiful message of peacefulness and acceptance. Take that feeling with you throughout the day with message shirts from Tees for a Change. With mottos like “choose happiness,” “laugh often,” and “seek balance,” the message of yoga will follow you throughout the day. $28 for short sleeve, $38 for long-sleeve

Mom Find: Time to Get in Shape
Category:
Fitness Mom
What: Tech 4 O Accelerator Watch
Why: It’s great when I find time to make it to the gym. But unfortunately, it’s not that often. The perfect storm of free time, child care and motivation rarely converge.
My strategy now is to make the best use of the time that I do find during the day—even when it’s just small pockets of time. The
Tech-O Watch is designed for runners. But I’ve found that it is a great tool to help me measure my activity during the day and find ways to improve upon it. There’s a pedometer function that measures the number of steps you take during a day. (All those trips up and down the stairs should count for something!) There’s a countdown timer (great for giving yourself 10 minutes for stretching), and a distance setting that tells you how far you walk during the day. And—most importantly—calories burned.
With this data, you’ll be able to challenge yourself to improve your number each day. Maybe that means another lap around the grocery store one day, or a bonus walk for the dog the next. If you don’t have time to make it to the gym, this is a great way to make the most of what you do have.
Price: $59.99
