A Find: Attention All Sushi and Chocolate Lovers
Category: Food
What: Suedy’s Koo-Ki Sushi Chocolates
Why: Chocolate might be overrated for Valentine’s Day, but you can give me a box of Koo-Ki-Sushi any day. These incredible treats are handmade from chocolates, crispy rice cookies and candy to look like your favorite piece of sushi—California Rolls, shrimp, tuna, you name it. I know, it might sound odd, but you’ve got to see and taste them for yourselves. The “tuna” sushi is made of strawberry flavored chocolate and it sits on top of a sweet cookie. Even the presentation is fabulous—the chocolates are artfully arranged in bento boxes that you can use long after devouring the sweets.
They also have chocolate saki cups and chop sticks if you want to get really festive. A fun gift for sushi or chocolate lovers, and don’t forget your pregnant best friend who’s been suffering from sushi withdrawal.
Order by February 12th to receive in time for Valentine’s Day.
Price: $15.00 for single pieces to $65.00 for a large gift box

New Year’s Resolution: Give Up Diet Coke
Category: Food Health
What: Anteadote Iced Tea from Adiago
Why: Diet Coke is one of my vices. And it can’t be that bad for you, because it doesn’t include any calories right?
A nutritionist friend of mine says it’s actually worse. In her opinion, all the chemicals used to artificially sweeten the soda are more harmful for you than the sugar in a regular Coke. And although I craved my daily Diet Cokes, I couldn’t ignore that I felt this kind of crummy “hangover” after drinking one. (Kind of shaky and headachy.)
In 2008, I’ve resolved to switch to tea. Adiago Tea has a line of wonderful iced teas, Anteadote, that are great-tasting and good for you. Unlike many supermarket iced teas, Anteadote teas are unsweetened, made from fresh tea leaves, not concentrate. Filtered water, tea leaves and vitamin C are the only ingredients—no additives or preservatives. Tea boasts a variety of health benefits—from weight loss to fighting heart disease. Ditch the Diet Coke for Anteadote, and I promise you that you won’t miss it and will feel much healthier for it.
Price: $24 for a case of 15 16.9 oz bottles.

Last Minute Gifts for Foodie Moms
Category: Food Holidays For the Home Kitchen Mom
Whether they love to eat, love to cook or both, it’s always fun to shop for foodie moms. Speaking as one, we’re pretty easy to please, but the only problem is that some foodie moms already have one of just about everything. Here are a few things we bet she doesn’t have and would love to get.
The Cucina line from Fruits & Passion features hand soaps, lotions, kitchen sprays, candles and more in scents like fig and fresh herbs, and ginger and Sicilian lemon. The products are made with ingredients that won’t affect the flavors of the food, and the sprays are formulated to work with the fragrances in her kitchen and not against them. So no more spritzing freesia to cover garlic. There are several gift sets or you can buy individual products.
The treats in this food tote from Lands’ End may disappear quickly, but the canvas bag is built to last so she can use it long after the holidays. Inside there are shortbread cookies, peppermint twists, white chocolate snowdrops and hot chocolate mix so she won’t have any trouble getting dad and the kids to help empty it. Order by Wednesday and you can still have the tote monogrammed and order by Thursday for standard shipping.
Your foodie friend who can and will throw a party at the drop of a hat, will adore this Select Brands Electric Heated Dip and Chip Tray. We all know what can happen to a hot dip when it cools off and it isn’t pretty. With this tray, it’s one less thing to worry about on New Year’s Eve or Super Bowl Sunday, and the heating base removes for easy clean-up. No hostess worth her spinach and artichoke dip would settle for less.
Finally, you can almost never go wrong with chocolate, but instead of giving the same brand again and again, give her chocolates she would never get for herself. Belgian Rose City Chocolates have no artificial flavors, colors or hydrogenated vegetable oils and are made from 100% cocoa butter. The fillings are smooth as silk and intensely flavorful. They’re beautifully packaged with a picture guide to what’s inside of every decadent piece. And Rose City also offers a line of vegan chocolates with absolutely no animal products. Overnight shipping is available.

Mom Find: Fits You to a Tea
Category: Food Mom Beauty
What: Sipping Beauty Teas
Why: I started a pretty serious tea habit when I was pregnant. I had given up coffee and wine—in my opinion, I deserved some sort of indulgence. Since then, I’ve become a bit of a tea connoisseur. I love to discover new blends, and have made it a habit to start and end my day with a cup of tea. I consider it part of a healthy daily ritual.
What I really never considered was that it could be part of a beauty ritual as well. The line of loose teas from Sipping Beauty are designed to do everything from detoxify your skin ( Puritea—includes hibiscus, rosehips, and blood orange) to aid weight loss ( Weightless—green tea with pineapple and papaya). There’s even a blend to make your body and breath smell fresh from the inside out ( Whiff—includes peppermint, lemon, and chlorophyll). These delicious teas are a wonderful way to treat what ails you.

Solution: Snack to Combat Baby Fat
Category: Food
What: Lightfull Smoothies
Why: So, it’s been more than a couple of months since you gave birth, and the only weight you’ve lost is the actual weight of the baby. Sound familiar? Try an all natural Lightfull Satiety Smoothie when food calls. The first reason is that all four amazing flavors (Chocolate Fudge, Café Latte, Peaches and Cream or Strawberry) are delicious. Secondly, they are especially designed to make you feel full, and they do just that. Thirdly, their nutrition is amazing, low calorie (90-100), high protein (6 grams) and high fiber (5-6 grams). Just what the doctor ordered. The fiber is hidden in the mixture so there is no grit, lumps or creepy texture, just smoothiness.

Get Cooking: Baby, Make Me Dinner!
Category: Books Food
What: Kitchen Playdates by Lauren Deen
Why: As Fall approaches, I’m getting used to the fact that my son and I are going to be spending much less time outdoors and much more time inside. Since I’m always looking for fun new activities to try, I was delighted to discover a new title from Chronicle Books, Kitchen Playdates .
This fun book is written by Laura Bank Deen, an Emmy Award-winning producer of lifestyle shows (for the likes of Martha Stewart Living Television and the Food Network). In this book, she includes ten themed kitchen “playdates” that include more than 70 recipes and ideas for everything from a pizza party to a “Mad Hatter Tea Party” (with recipes for lemon squares, tea sandwiches, and “dinosaur eggs”).
Each playdate includes suggestions for age-appropriate tasks, plus fun craft ideas. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon with your kids and their friends—and with recipes that include Mint Tea Roast Lamb and Spaghetti Carbonara, you’ll enjoy eating the results of your hard work as much as you all enjoyed teaming up to create it.

Get Cooking: Can’t Live Without My Smoothie Maker
Category: Food For the Home Gadgets Kitchen
What: Hamilton Beach WaveStation Dispensing Blender
Why: I originally bought my smoothie maker as a way to make myself a fast, nutritious breakfast on the run before work. I also wanted to be able to make use of the peaches, bananas and other fruit that weren’t getting eaten whole in time. Now I use it to make a quick evening dessert for the whole family and after-school snacks.
Of course I use fruit and yogurt, but I also add healthy stuff that you can hide in a smoothie like carrots, whey protein, powdered milk (for extra calcium) and flax oil. I’ve experimented a lot and never really made a bad smoothie. But here’s a hint: frozen strawberries or bananas can save almost any smoothie. And when you think about how much you pay for smoothies at the mall, the smoothie maker pays for itself pretty quickly.
My smoothie maker has some age on it and I’m looking to upgrade now. I like this Hamilton Beach WaveStation Dispensing Blender . It’s got 700 watts of power and 10 speeds and can crush ice, a smoothie must. I like the dispenser, which works just by holding a glass to it, and the three-year warranty. Since I leave mine out on the counter, I like the idea of a combo smoothie maker/blender. Plus, it’s on sale for $29.99.
