Electronics Giveaways For the Home Gadgets
Today’s Prize: Sony Cyber-Shot DSC W55 Digital Camera
Get ready to say “Cheese!” because today’s prize is an awesome Sony Digital Camera. Boasting 7.2 megapixels and a large LCD screen, on a small, lightweight body that fits easily in your pocket, it’s no wonder why they can’t keep this camera in stock (the last time we checked, it was sold out). DadFinds Friday: No More Wasted Outlets with Powersquid
Category:
Dad For the Home Gadgets
What: Powersquid Surge Protector
Why: My husband thinks it’s funny how I can get excited over a pair of shoes, but he’s the same way when it comes to electronics. You name it, he’s got it, and he has all the power cords to prove it. He’s good about taming the cords and keeping them concealed (for the most part), but if he has one complaint, it’s that most power strips end up with at least one wasted outlet. You’ve seen the size of those huge cell phone or computer power adapters, right?
Enter the Powersquid, a clever power strip that looks like…a squid. It accommodates up to six adapters—regardless of size—and also protects his “toys” against power surges. Effective and really eye-catching, so just make sure your kid understands it’s not a toy.
Price: $74.95

A Find: Wash Up with Simple Human
Category:
For the Home Gadgets Kitchen
What: Sensor Soap Pump from Simple Human
Why: I feel like handwashing is my constant nag. Lunchtime? Wash your hands. Back from the park? Wash your hands. Splashing around in the dog’s dishes again? Well, you get the point.
It’s a constant struggle to get my wiggly one washed up, but so important. Especially as we enter cold and flu season.
Simple Human just introduced a sensor hand pump that makes the sell that much easier. Soap is dispensed when the sensor is activated (preventing cross-contamination) and an optional LED light timer blinks for 20 seconds, indicating how long to lather for germ-free hands. Such a simple—and fun—way to keep the whole family germ-free. Plus, like all Simple Human products, it’s beautifully designed, making it a great addition to the kitchen.
Price: $39.99

Dad Finds Friday: Night Light

Dad For the Home Gadgets Solutions
What: Lightwedge Book Light
Why: There’s no worse way to end the day than with the argument that ensues when one of you wants to turn out the light and go to sleep, and the other one wants to keep reading. Enter the solution: the
Lightwedge Book Light. Now, I’ve tried that folding sliver praying mantis-looking clip-on deal that’s everywhere nowadays (by “everywhere” I mean “Target”), but it’s unwieldy and throws a sharp arc of light on only part of the page.
But now, using the oddball technology perfected with faux-neon signs and gaudy drugstore end-cap displays, Lightwedge shines LEDs onto the edge of a piece of plexiglass, which distributes light evenly across the plastic plane, illuminating the whole page. But so long as you leave the coffee table books downstairs on the coffee table, you’ll probably only need the “Paperback” size (5.25” x 8.75”.) Thank you, Lightwedge, for resolving our recurring argument.
Price: $24.95

Get Cooking: Can’t Live Without My Smoothie Maker
Category:
Food For the Home Gadgets Kitchen
What: Hamilton Beach WaveStation Dispensing Blender
Why: I originally bought my smoothie maker as a way to make myself a fast, nutritious breakfast on the run before work. I also wanted to be able to make use of the peaches, bananas and other fruit that weren’t getting eaten whole in time. Now I use it to make a quick evening dessert for the whole family and after-school snacks.
Of course I use fruit and yogurt, but I also add healthy stuff that you can hide in a smoothie like carrots, whey protein, powdered milk (for extra calcium) and flax oil. I’ve experimented a lot and never really made a bad smoothie. But here’s a hint: frozen strawberries or bananas can save almost any smoothie. And when you think about how much you pay for smoothies at the mall, the smoothie maker pays for itself pretty quickly.
My smoothie maker has some age on it and I’m looking to upgrade now. I like this Hamilton Beach WaveStation Dispensing Blender
. It’s got 700 watts of power and 10 speeds and can crush ice, a smoothie must. I like the dispenser, which works just by holding a glass to it, and the three-year warranty. Since I leave mine out on the counter, I like the idea of a combo smoothie maker/blender. Plus, it’s on sale for $29.99.

Sponsored Post: Staying Connected with Relatives Just Got Easier
Category:
For the Home Gadgets
We all have that family member who we’d love to send regular email updates or digital photos to, but there’s one slight problem: they don’t have a computer or they don’t have email access.
Enter Presto, an email service that delivers emails, photos, and even crossword and Sudoku puzzles to folks who aren’t “wired.” It’s so simple to use, even Grandma can do it.
To set it up, all she has to do is call the Presto Customer Care toll-free line and tell them who she’d like to receive messages from (no junk mail!). Then, she plugs in a special HP printer into a standard phone line, adds some paper and an ink cartridge, and she’s ready to receive messages from friends and family. Staying connected just got easier.
The Presto printer is available at presto.com for $149.99 ($99.99 for a limited time), and the email service costs $9.99 per month or $99.99 annually.
Want to win a FREE Presto Printer with three months free service for Grandma and Grandpa? We’re giving one away for this week’s Win it Wednesday. Just leave a comment and tell us why you want to win.
