Last Minute Gifts for Foodie Moms

Category: Food Holidays For the Home Kitchen Mom

Whether they love to eat, love to cook or both, it’s always fun to shop for foodie moms.  Speaking as one, we’re pretty easy to please, but the only problem is that some foodie moms already have one of just about everything.  Here are a few things we bet she doesn’t have and would love to get.

image
The Cucina line from Fruits & Passion features hand soaps, lotions, kitchen sprays, candles and more in scents like fig and fresh herbs, and ginger and Sicilian lemon. The products are made with ingredients that won’t affect the flavors of the food, and the sprays are formulated to work with the fragrances in her kitchen and not against them. So no more spritzing freesia to cover garlic. There are several gift sets or you can buy individual products.

image
The treats in this food tote from Lands’ End may disappear quickly, but the canvas bag is built to last so she can use it long after the holidays. Inside there are shortbread cookies, peppermint twists, white chocolate snowdrops and hot chocolate mix so she won’t have any trouble getting dad and the kids to help empty it. Order by Wednesday and you can still have the tote monogrammed and order by Thursday for standard shipping.

Your foodie friend who can and will throw a party at the drop of a hat, will adore this Select Brands Electric Heated Dip and Chip Tray. We all know what can happen to a hot dip when it cools off and it isn’t pretty. With this tray, it’s one less thing to worry about on New Year’s Eve or Super Bowl Sunday, and the heating base removes for easy clean-up. No hostess worth her spinach and artichoke dip would settle for less.

Finally, you can almost never go wrong with chocolate, but instead of giving the same brand again and again, give her chocolates she would never get for herself. Belgian Rose City Chocolates have no artificial flavors, colors or hydrogenated vegetable oils and are made from 100% cocoa butter. The fillings are smooth as silk and intensely flavorful. They’re beautifully packaged with a picture guide to what’s inside of every decadent piece. And Rose City also offers a line of vegan chocolates with absolutely no animal products. Overnight shipping is available.

The South Seas scent is indescribable but they hit it on the head and the fragrance truly feels exotic and soft. And your hands? They’ll be soft, too. It’s a small little addition to your kitchen sink that just might make your day.

MomFinds Solution: Wipe Out Germs

Category: For the Home Bathroom Kitchen Solutions

imageWhat: Wipe Out Germs with Wet Onesicon

Why: Because there are cooties everywhere.  My toddler puts everything in his mouth, drops his food, dumps his drinks, drools on his toys, and is generally a messy little guy (in a cute way, of course).  Wet Ones kill germs, come in travel and economy sizes, and are really about the easiest way I know to do a quick disinfect.  If you have play dates for your kids, Wet Ones are a must.  While you can’t avoid all illness, you’re certainly going to have an edge over cold season if you keep a supply of them on hand.  It’s that easy.  Have particularly sensitive skin?  Try Wet Ones Extra Gentle.icon

Price: $3 for a 40-count canister

A Find: Wash Up with Simple Human

Category: For the Home Gadgets Kitchen

image

What: Sensor Soap Pump from Simple Human

Why: I feel like handwashing is my constant nag. Lunchtime? Wash your hands. Back from the park? Wash your hands. Splashing around in the dog’s dishes again? Well, you get the point.

It’s a constant struggle to get my wiggly one washed up, but so important. Especially as we enter cold and flu season. Simple Human just introduced a sensor hand pump that makes the sell that much easier. Soap is dispensed when the sensor is activated (preventing cross-contamination) and an optional LED light timer blinks for 20 seconds, indicating how long to lather for germ-free hands. Such a simple—and fun—way to keep the whole family germ-free. Plus, like all Simple Human products, it’s beautifully designed, making it a great addition to the kitchen.

Price: $39.99

Get Cooking: Can’t Live Without My Smoothie Maker

Category: Food For the Home Gadgets Kitchen

What: Hamilton Beach WaveStation Dispensing Blender

imageWhy: I originally bought my smoothie maker as a way to make myself a fast, nutritious breakfast on the run before work. I also wanted to be able to make use of the peaches, bananas and other fruit that weren’t getting eaten whole in time. Now I use it to make a quick evening dessert for the whole family and after-school snacks.

Of course I use fruit and yogurt, but I also add healthy stuff that you can hide in a smoothie like carrots, whey protein, powdered milk (for extra calcium) and flax oil. I’ve experimented a lot and never really made a bad smoothie. But here’s a hint: frozen strawberries or bananas can save almost any smoothie. And when you think about how much you pay for smoothies at the mall, the smoothie maker pays for itself pretty quickly.

My smoothie maker has some age on it and I’m looking to upgrade now. I like this Hamilton Beach WaveStation Dispensing Blender. It’s got 700 watts of power and 10 speeds and can crush ice, a smoothie must. I like the dispenser, which works just by holding a glass to it, and the three-year warranty. Since I leave mine out on the counter, I like the idea of a combo smoothie maker/blender. Plus, it’s on sale for $29.99.

MomFinds Solutions: Lotus Sanitizing System Turns Water to Super Water

Category: For the Home Kitchen

image

What: The lotus Sanitizing System

Why: Even after using the lotus, I’m amazed how this machine works. Voted one of the best inventions of 2006 by Time Magazine, the lotus system by Tersano, infuses water with Ozone, a natural sanitizer that is stronger than bleach. The machine comes with a base, spray bottle for cleaning and a bowl and lid for killing bacteria and pesticides on everything from fruit and vegetables to pacifiers and small baby toys.

To clean with the lotus, all you do is fill the spray bottle with tap water and pop it on the base for the few minutes it takes to go through the oxygenation cycle. It’s a little noisy so don’t use it while baby is sleeping. Once the water is ready, the machine will beep, then just spray and clean with one of the included microfiber cloths on any surface in your home: no chemicals, no odors, no cleaners.  You can spray your cutting boards, sinks and diaper pails, too, anywhere you are concerned about bacteria and germs which is just about everywhere.

To use the bowl and lid, just fill it with cold water to sanitize small toys, dish cloths, sponges and bottle nipples.

I used the lotus before a big dinner party to clean my counters, cutting boards and bathroom. Then I switched to the bowl to wash my produce. I know, it seems too good to be true, produce that is safer and lasts longer, a baby’s room that is super clean and chemical-free, mold and mildew gone, but the lotus manual and the Web site explain it all.

A Find: Hip and Happy Beverage Bottle from Sigg

Category: Celebrities Children Meal Time Eco-Friendly For the Home Gadgets Kitchen

imageWhat: Smart and Trendy Water Bottles from Sigg

Why: We’re all trying to drink more water these days, both with the heat and the health news about proper hydration.  Put some groove into your beverage by using a Swiss-engineered Sigg bottle.  Not only are the durable, but there is no leeching – and can you say “leak-proof?” Celeb moms Madonna and Cindy Crawford are big fans.  Remember, the bottles are non-toxic and totally recyclable.

At the mySigg website, you can design your own bottle, by mixing bottle and lid designs.  Get one for yourself and the kids (Sigg bottles come in kid and bigger sizes).  You can also grab a kids’ grip ($6) to help your young one hold on.

Price: $16-$19
