Category:
Mom Beauty

What: Lift’Argan Organic Skin Care from France
Why: If you are one of those product-loving moms who keeps an eye out for the “new great thing” in skincare, here’s a product line you’ll want to get to know. Now in the U.S., this French line uses Argan oil as it’s core ingredient. Sourced from Morocco, this oil is supposedly called “Liquid Gold” by women who live there to its numerous enriching effects on the skin. Argan oil is extracted from seeds found in the fruit of the Argan tree (Argania Spinosa), a native tree of Morocco. Argan oil is rich in Omega 6 and Omega 9 as well as hydrating vitamin A and antioxidant vitamin E.
The
Express Mask is a great way to unwind and plump up stressed out or sunned out skin at the end of a big week. You will definitely notice a difference in how your skin feels. Another great find for total body is the
Nourishing Body Balm, which contains argan oil and a blend of shea and mango butters, camelina and borage oils. It is also packed with tamanu oil which promotes anti-aging and toning of the skin by stimulating collagen production.
Price: $40 mask; $35 body balm

Mom Find: Get Sexy Legs with Earth Sandals
Category:
Fitness Mom Fashion Shoes
What: Earth Elara Sandals
Why: Around this time last year we did a
Trend Alert on fitness shoes that tone your legs with each step you take—think
MBTs
and
FitFlops
—and the trend is still going strong. It’s no surprise; who doesn’t want sexy legs?
Here’s another shoe to add to your arsenal of fitness shoes, and it’s not as obvious as the other two. The
Earth Elara Sandal
looks like an ordinary leather sandal, but it’s anything but. Using a negative heel technology that places your toes higher than your heel, it forces you to push a little harder to step forward, giving your calves a good workout and making you burn more calories. Another benefit is that you stand a little taller and straighter. You’ll feel good wearing them right out of the box. Imagine all this, and no one would even know. You can sneak in a workout even when you’re dressed in a cute summer dress.
Choose from red, brown, black and white.

Top Five Ways to Look Like A Beach Goddess Now
Category:
Mom Bath and Body Beauty
You’re counting down to your summer vacation and that precious pool or beach time. But why wait to unleash your inner Sun Goddess when you can get a beach-worthy body and sun-kissed look now. Here’s how:
First, get your body in shape for that new bathing suit you bought. The French skincare company Institut Esthederm recently introduced Bio-Svelt Body Shaping Cream ($82), a peptide-rich cream designed to break up the fatty tissues responsible for summer skin’s enemy - cellulite. I’ve been using just a little bit every night for a week and am actually beginning to see things firm up a bit in my problem areas. Check out the whole Bio Balance line to find the best product for your own trouble zones.
I confess that when my natural tan fades I go straight for the bronzer, but I found something better. Xen-Tan
($16) gives a subtle, gradual color with the extra benefit of vitamin E and antioxidants. You won’t get too dark and you really can’t mess it up. Plus, it doesn’t smell like tanner. There’s no SPF, so make sure you also use a sunblock too.
While you’re waiting to get that perfect leg tan, fake it with Invisible Stockings by Judith August
($30). It may be more expensive than other tanners, but you mix it with lotion so it lasts longer, and you control exactly how much tint to use. It goes on very silky and has aloe and jojoba oil. You can also use it on your arms and shoulders, and everyone will think you’ve been sneaking out for some sun.
Nothing looks prettier with bronze skin and a summer dress than a French manicure, but who has the time to do it, let alone keep it up. The new and very natural looking Nude French nails ($4.99) from Broadway were much easier than I imagined to apply and held up better than I thought and they really look natural. You get 24 nails in every size you need and can choose natural peach or pink.
Finally, finish your bronze and beachy look with the perfect lip gloss and blush. Cosmic Face Flush in AstroRose ($28) is a light-for-summer powder blush with natural pigments in the perfect rose tint for just about any skin tone, while LipDDiction in AstroSheen ($22) is a beachy golden rose color with just a touch of glimmer. I’m using it every day, rain or shine.

Beauty Find: Sunless Tanner That Doesn’t Dry Out Your Skin
Category:
Mom Bath and Body
What: Olay Touch of Sun for Dry Skin
Why: One of the biggest complaints moms make about sunless tanner is that they tend to dry out your skin. Sure, they give you a little color, and some don’t even smell that bad, but why do you have to sacrifice moisture. Olay has created a specific sunless tanner that’s got added moisturizes so that you get the benefit of a little color (helps keep a real tan, longer, too) but you don’t need to double up with an additional lotion on top of that. It’s a win-win, and it doesn’t smell funky, either.

Beauty Alert: That Shiny Lip Gloss Could Cause Cancer
Category:
Mom Beauty

Color me bummed! A story on
msnbc.com last week reported that some dermatologists believe that wearing lip gloss can increase your risk of developing skin cancer by allowing damaging rays to penetrate the lips. The story says about 3,500 new cases of skin cancer of the lips are diagnosed each year and more bad news, skin cancer can be more aggressive on the lips than on other parts of the skin. Or you could end up not with cancer, but with a scaly patch of skin and “a wart-like bump” if left untreated.
The dermatologist in the story blames, of all things, “the moisture in lip gloss.” The shinier the gloss, the worse it can get. The only good news is that “no studies have confirmed the lip gloss-skin cancer link.”
I’m a lip gloss junkie and because I live in Florida, I can’t carry around lipsticks in my purse or car because they melt. So what’s a girl to do? The experts recommend you switch to a lip gloss with SPF
15. There aren’t too many out there, but I like
Clinique’s Long Lasting Glosswear
($14) available in plenty of pretty summer shades.
Doctors say the next best thing is to protect your lips by applying SPF 30 lip balm under your gloss. For just $$1.69 a tube, you can stock up on
Eco Lips
with SPF 30, organic vegetable oil, beeswax and herbs, and you won’t have to toss your gloss.

Beauty Find: The Hair Brush for Styling, Smoothing and Sharing
Category:
Mom Beauty
What: Ionic Paddle Brush from The Big Brush Company
Why: You don’t have to have big hair to appreciate a big new brush, especially this one. You need this brush for several reasons, but its incorpation of a nano-silver coating (renowned for its anti-microbial properties) makes it one of a kind. According to the company, “Tests show that nano-silver kills 99.9% of bacteria, virtually eliminating cross-contamination and infection. You no longer need worry which of your friends or family use this brush.”
This cool brush is also heat-resistant, anti-static, ionic (to reduce drying time) and ceramic for durability. If you have been looking for a brush that will hold up for a long time and truly has an impact on how your hair looks every time you use it - this is it. Worth the money, hands down.
