Recall: 24,000 Munire Furniture Cribs Recalled Due to Fall Hazard
Category:
Recalls
What: The
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Munire Furniture, announced yesterday a voluntary recall of the Majestic Curved Top and Flat Top Cribs, Essex Cribs, Brighton/Sussex Cribs and Captiva Cribs sold from November 2005 through November 2007.
Hazard: The cribs fail to meet the federal safety standards for cribs. The four support brackets on the mattress support spring are too long. The brackets prevent the spring from lowering to the full 26 inch minimum height in its lowest position, allowing children inside to crawl over the railing, posing a fall hazard.

Recall: Aqua Dots Toys Recalled Due to “Date Rape” Drug Scare
Category:
Children Toys Recalls
About 4.2 million China-made
Aqua Dots toys have been pulled from the shelves because the beads contain the same dangerous chemical as the “date rape” drug. If ingested, children can become comatose, develop respiratory depression or have seizures. Aqua Dots made Wal-Mart’s list of top 12 holiday toys, so if you were planning on getting one, scratch that idea, and if you’ve already purchased one, take it away from children immediately.

Recall: Bumbo Baby Sitter Seats Recalled For Head Injury Risk
Category:
Children Recalls
You know those popular
Bumbo Baby Sitter Seats, the clever contraptions designed to help babies sit upright. Well, about one million of these seats are being recalled.
According to the
CPSC, there have been 28 reports of serious head injuries, including three skull fractures, all resulting from improper use of the seat. Those three skull fractures—happened when the Bumbo seat was placed on a table and the children fell out.
CPSC explains, “If the seat is placed on a table, countertop, chair, or other elevated surface, young children can arch their backs, flip out of the Bumbo seat, and fall onto the floor, posing a risk of serious head injuries.”
When used properly, the Bumbo seat is safe, but until the manufacturer updates the packaging to include warning label stickers and instructions, no new Bumbo seats will be sold. Families who already have a seat can visit the
Bumbo site to obtain the new labels.

Top Five Ways to Protect Your Kids from Lead Paint
Category:
Children Toys How To Recalls Top Five
It seems like every week, there’s a new terrifying report with a lengthy list of toys that have been recalled due to their lead paint content. How do you protect your kids without discarding the entire toy bin? The Chicago Tribune recently wrote an article with some excellent advice. Here’s what I found to be the most useful tips.
1. Get rid of toys with bright-colored enamel paint.
2. Regularly inspect toys for chipped or peeling paint or small parts that have come loose or broken apart.
3. Search recalls back to 1973 on the Consumer Product Safety Commission Web site.
4. Feed children a diet high in iron, calcium, and vitamin C.
5. Beware of lesser-known sources of lead like vinyl baby bibs, vinyl mini-blinds, curtain weights, imported candles, pewter figurines, metallic toys from gumball machines, and Mexican tamarind candy.

News: Mattel Announces Second Recall of Toys this Month
Category:
Children Toys News Recalls

Earlier this month, Mattel
recalled a million toys due to lead hazard. Just today,
Mattel announced another round of recalls affecting more than nine million toys, all made in China.
The paint on the
Sarge die cast toy from the movie
Cars has been found to have unacceptable levels of lead, while nine million magnetic toys including
Polly Pocket, Doggy Daycare, Batman and Barbie have been pulled because the high-powered magnets can come loose. If swallowed, the magnets can cause serious injury and death.
Click
here for more information and to see a complete list of affected toys. You know what to do if you find one of them in your kid’s toy collection.

News: Mattell Recalls a Million Toys Due to Lead Paint Hazard
Category:
Children Toys News Recalls

Is it just me or are we seeing more and more of these recalls these days? This time it’s
Mattel, and they’re recalling about a million popular Sesame Street and Nickelodeon toys sold since May 2007. Think Dora, Diego, Backyardigans, Elmo and the rest of the Sesame Street gang.
As a mom with a kid who can’t get enough of Elmo (and as a mom in general), let’s just say I’m a little ticked off and getting tired of reading these
headlines. My son has several of the toys on the list, and so do many of his friends. And I was thinking about getting him the Grow with Me Elmo Sprinkler to beat the heat, but that won’t be happening any time soon.
So if you haven’t done so yet,
click here to see which toys are affected, and then go through your kid’s toy collection to see if any of them are involved in the recall. And then tell us, what do you think of all these recalls?

News: Baby Bling Pacifiers Recalled
Category:

What: Swarovski Studded Pacifiers Recalled Due to Choking Hazard
I always thought these bling pacifiers were a bad idea. Your kid could care less what his pacifier looks like…as long as he gets it when he wants it. And the thought of gluing Swarovski crystals on an object that goes in baby’s mouth just doesn’t sit right with me.
It looks like 1,000 of these babies sold at Etsy and Ebay from June 2006 to March 2007 have failed to meet federal safety standards for pacifiers. “The crystals can separate easily.” You don’t say?
