The Perfect Pushup for a Great Workout
Category:
Fitness
What: The Perfect Pushup for a Great Workout
Why: As a new mom, it’s almost impossible sometimes to find time to get out of the house for a workout. Especially with a new baby. And while a Precor or a treadmill might be beyond your budget, the Perfect Pushup is more than an arm workout. Because of the pivoting handles you are required to use your entire core as you do a traditional push up. The wide base helps aid stability so you do the push up correctly. Better still it takes up very little space, costs very little and you can get a great workout in front of the TV.

Step into Fitness with Reebok EasyTones
Category:
Fitness Mom
What: Reebok EasyTone Inspire
Why: When it comes to fitness shoes, I’m an
MBT
devotee—I have the sneakers and Mary Janes and I wear them as much as I can. But when I heard about Reebok’s new
EasyTone sneakers, a shoe that claims “28% more gluteus maximus muscle activation, and 11% more calf and hamstring activation” at half the cost of MBTs, I had to put my MBTs aside.
How does it stack up? First, they look nothing like the bulky MBTs. The EasyTone looks like a regular sneaker, and they’re actually quite cute in pink and white. The stability balls that “create a natural instability” that works your legs is subtle and you’d have to flip the shoe upside down to even notice them.
The shoes are extremely lightweight and comfortable—the mesh uppers are especially good at letting sweaty feet breathe. There’s no awkwardness to them—it just feels like you’re walking on a squishy patch of sandy beach—and unlike my MBTs, which required some getting used to, I was comfortable wearing the EasyTones from the very first step.
I’ve had them for a few weeks now, and although my legs, butt and thighs aren’t miraculously tight (yet), I have been walking more, and I’ve been enjoying every step.

Practice Yoga in Peace with Mats from the Bolder Mat Company
Category:
Fitness
What: Flower Power Yoga Mat from The Bolder Mat Company
Why: Who says yoga has to be serious? You can have a strong practice but it’s not worth much if you don’t enjoy yourself during those sun salutations and difficult poses. I’m on my mat throughout the day—teaching and practicing. And now that I have the Flower Power Yoga Mat, I find myself spending even more time doing yoga. This beautiful purple mat promotes peace as well as power. Flowers and hummingbirds remind you that yoga stems from nature, and that a good practice is whatever feels natural to you.
The Bolder Mat Company has four other inspiring designs to choose from. You can even design your own. The mats are nice and thick, as well as heavy metal- and phthate-free so they keep you and the environment safe. The Bolder Mat Company even has a Renew and Recycle Program—send in your old yoga mat to receive $5 off any Bolder mat. Now that’s good yoga mat karma!

Mother’s Day Gifts for the Mom Who Loves to Exercise
Category:
Mother's Day Fitness
Is there a mom in your life whose day does not feel complete unless she breaks a sweat? Here are some gift ideas that will heighten her exercise-induced euphoria:
The Totally Fit with Mel B
($9.99) DVD is a indoor workout that will make you feel like you just spent time at a gym. Have you seen the former Spice Girl’s body lately? It’s pretty amazing, and she shares her secrets here. She incorporates cardio, as well as arms, legs, butt and abs routines that work for all fitness levels.
No time for a workout since you’ll be automotive-bound? Try Carpool Karma ($14.95), an audio guide that works your mind and body in your car. By following along with the CD you will target muscle groups, stimulate your brain and maybe (just maybe) feel a little more relaxed at the end of your drive.
This Vimala Long Hooded Jacket in Iris ($49.00) would be a welcome addition to anyone’s wardrobe—whether you’re an exerciser or not. It’s a great fitted jacket made from organic cotton and spandex (stretchy!), and it’s perfect for post-workout wear. Put it on for a power walk outside or throw it over your yoga clothes after class. It’s as versatile as you are.
Are your favorite workouts outside? Now that the weather is warmer, you might want to apply Eco Lips Face Stick ($8.99) first. It’s an SPF 30 sunscreen that acts as a moisturizer as well. It’s also the most organic sunscreen on the market with 82% certified organic ingredients.
Exercising can take a toll on the skin. And with summer on the way, it’s time to make sure hands, feet and other body parts are hydrated and ready for warmer weather. Nouriva Repair Moisturizing Cream ($18) contains ingredients that repair, nourish and protect skin. Ensure that your workout routine strengthens your body but doesn’t dry out your skin.
