Kid Find: Not Your Average Board Game
Category: Children Games
What: I Can Do That! Games
Why: Now that Winter is upon us, everyone’s spending a lot more time indoors. It’s only December, but I’m already starting to get a little stir crazy. (And running out of ideas for fun things to do.) Finding a way to expend some of that kid energy all day indoors can be a challenge.
That’s why I love the line of games from I Can Do That! These games don’t expect your little ones to sit still for an entire game. In fact, they encourage kids to get our of their seats jump, hop, sing, and laugh. Inspired by the classic Dr. Seuss stories, there are six different games that will have your kid engaged and energized. Help Horton rescue the Whos in the Horton Hears a Who: You to the Rescue Game. Sing to save the Whos (an electronic singing detector will be the judge) in The Grinch Sing Your Heart Out! Game. And work to deliver play food as fast as you can to your friends in the Green Eggs and Ham Speedy Diner game.

Family Find: Games that Connect Generations
Category: Games

What: Around the Table Games
Why: Around the Table Games are designed to get families talking. The games consist of cards to spur conversation within a family or group. The cards ask such questions as “What is or was your favorite stuffed animal?”, “What were the first words that your children spoke?” or “What are you most proud of” and invite members of the group to discuss. Three sets of cards are available, Family Talk, Grandparent Talk and Family Talk 2.
These are a neat way for younger family members to learn about older ones and the other way around. My touchy feely-adverse family were skeptical, but still enjoyed the Family Talk version. We skipped some cards, but that’s okay, since the games have no rules. The games also have no board or small pieces, and you can get them on a carabiner clip, so it’s easy to take on vacation or “play” in the car.
Prices: $12.95 on a clip, $14.95 in a jar
