Forget the High Chair: Give Your Kid a Kaboost
Category:
Children Meal Time
What: Kaboost Portable Chair Booster
Why: Now this is clever. The Kaboost snaps on to virtually any chair, giving it a boost so your kid can sit at the table like everyone else. It took seconds for me to attach it to my dining room chair, and it took less time for my three-year-old to fall in love with it. He climbed right up, took a seat and didn’t want to get off.
And feel free to take a seat yourself. It holds up to 300 pounds and is sturdy and safe. Choose from green, brown, natural and charcoal, and get a
Travel Bag for $9.95 to take the Kaboost with you when you dine out or head over to Grandma’s.

Baby Find: I Can’t Believe It’s a Bib
Category:
Children Meal Time Children's Fashion

What:
Baby Chaleco Performance Wear for Heavy Droolers
Why: Tired of Baby’s dress getting soaked with drool? Tired of drool bibs that spoil an outfit? I was. As a mother of a heavy-drooling infant, I was looking for a way to keep her dressed sweetly and dry. I found
Baby Chaleco performance bibs. Cute enough for all-day wear,
Baby Chaleco tops stay on, stay put and stay dry. The top layer is absorbent cotton, while underneath is waterproof backing.
Available in several styles, all the bibs are designed to make an outfit, not break it. Choose from frock or shirt styles, and no one will know your baby is actually wearing her bib. Now droolers and spitters might even out-style their less gushy friends.
Price: $36 - $38.50

Earth Day Find: Eco-Friendly Sigg 100 Site
Category:
Children Meal Time Eco-Friendly Site Review

What: sigg100.com
Why: Sigg, maker of wonderful aluminum water bottles, launched an 100 anniversary site in February dedicated to environmental concerns. Sigg partnered with Laurie David’s organization,
StopGlobalWarming.org to create the site. It will be up until Earth Day, April 22 and has a plethora of environmental information, including a tough quiz on global warming. The focus is a showcase of 100 Significant Eco-Moments in the past century.
At the site you can order water bottles, and enter to win a trip to Hawaii to attend the 5th annual Kokua Festival headlined by Jack Johnson. Sigg’s bottles are a great alternative to plastic bottles. They are reuseable, recyclable and do not leach harmful chemicals. The designs are really cute, you are bound to find perfect for each person in your family. My family has been using Sigg bottles for a long time and we love them.

Kid Find: It’s Okay to Play with Your Food
Category:
Children Meal Time
What: Constructive Eating Utensil Set
Why: I have one of those kids who’s obsessed with big trucks. Dump trucks, tractors, cement mixers, you name it. So when he got this construction utensil set in the mail, he was squealing with delight (and still does every night at dinner). The set comes with a yellow fork lift fork, a front loader spoon and a bulldozer pusher to help move the food around. Sure, my son plays with his food, but I can happily report that it all ends up in his mouth, no nagging needed.
Price: $20

Kid Find: Meal Time Gets Groovy with Boon
Category:
Children Meal Time
What: Feeding Gear from Boon, Inc.
Why: Boon is one of my absolute favorite kids’ companies. Whatever they design has such modern elegance and practicality to it, from their ingenious
animal bags to their sweet little
potty bench. (And believe me, I never thought I’d be describing a potty bench as “sweet”.)
Their new line of feeding gear is positively brilliant in design. The
Squirt spoon allows you to fill the base with baby food and just squeeze to dispense.
Fluid is a streamlined no-spill toddler cup with an ergonomic, two-handed grip. And
Groovy is a fun toddler-sized plate with two small bowls that attach to the side in a variety of positions. As practical as they are beautifully designed, Boon’s products are a welcome addition to the table of any design-savvy family.
Price: $5.99 - $12.99

Kid Find: Fine Dining
Category:
Children Meal Time
What: Designer Diner from Bella Tunno
Why: Leisurely dinners out aren’t much of an option when you have small kids in tow. The potential for flying cutlery pretty much rules out any restaurant with candlelight and white tablecloths.
But this doesn’t mean that you have to restrict yourself exclusively to restaurants with giant talking mascots. The trick is to make sure that your kid is entertained. A new product from Bella Tunno provides an elegant solution to this age-old problem. The
Designer Diner is a funky placemat on one side and reusable chalk mat on the other. It rolls up into a portable pouch that you can just toss into your diaper bag for dinners out.
Price: $22

New Year’s Resolutions: Less Lunch Waste
Category:
Children Meal Time Eco-Friendly
One of my resolutions is one to waste less packaging when making lunches for school. I have tried a lot of different food containers over the past year, but not all have worked, especially since my first-grader has a hard time opening things. That in mind, here are a few steps I vow to take this year:

Enclose a cloth napkin or two in each lunch. In addition to cleaning up, the napkin cushions everything. Fabkins.com has some really cute and absorbent napkins designed for kids ($22.95 for set of five).

In an effort to reduce plastic bags and single serve items, I will reuse a snap-lid plastic container and fill it with snacks from a large bag, box, whatever. When I really need to bag something I’ll use Natural Value Unbleached Waxed Paper Bags ($2.95 for 60).

Train my child to successfully open and then fully close his stylish SIGG aluminum water bottle that I purchased for $18. Can’t say I love the bread crust yogurt soup that he comes home with when he doesn’t get it closed.
Has this been a goal for you? What’s worked?
