MomFarah’s Top Five Finds of 2007
Category:
Children Meal Time Potty Training Strollers Toys Top Five
It was another great year to be a mom at MomFinds, and probably an even better one to be a kid in my house. Like the other moms, it was hard to keep the list to a top five, but here are the ones that made it easier and more fun to be a mom…and kid.
PlasmaCar
($69.95): My three-year-old spent the summer on his PlasmaCar, and when he felt like sharing, my husband and I took turns taking it for a spin around the block. It’s a fantastic way to introduce young ones to wheels, and we love how easy it is to use.

Geuther Family High Chair
($229): This one doesn’t hide out in the kitchen. Nope, it stays out with the rest of our dining chairs, and works as well as it looks. My son can easily climb in and out of it, and it’s sturdy enough for an adult to sit on.

Boon Potty Bench ($29.99): We went through a lot of potties this summer, but it was the Boon Potty Bench that my son used to hone his potty skills. It was comfortable for his little bottom, easy to clean, and as the mom of a little boy, I loved the rubber guard on the front for the occasional “spray.”

Maclaren Volo Stroller
($120): We hit the road several times this year, and the Volo was a life-saver. It’s light as a feather, easy to push and my son never complained. And, of course, it’s a Maclaren so it looks good.
P’kolino’s Little Reader ($95): This cozy little chair is where my son hangs out to read his favorite books (right now he’s really into Put Me In the Zoo)
. It’s fun watching him sit quietly in a spot made just for him, and it’s so lightweight he can carry it around the house whenever he needs his own seat. And do I have to say how cute it is?

Poll: Spend $125 on a Potty Bench?
Category:
Children Potty Training Poll

I spotted these swanky, hand-painted potty benches at
Bel-Bambini the other day, and I have to admit they’re beautiful. My preschooler thought they were very cool, and he looked like a little king sitting on a throne. But $125 for a potty? Ouch. That’s money down the drain. They even have some potties that can convert into a rocking chair, but do I really want a piece of furniture that’s been pooped on? What do you think?

Potty Training Find: Bedwetting Alarm
Category:
Children Potty Training
What: Malem Ultimate Bedwetting Alarm
Why: After being teased at a sleepover by his younger cousin our son really wanted to ditch the Pull-Ups at night. But we had a lot of trouble. So we tried the
Malem Ultimate Bedwetting Alarm. It is a small device that you attach to their PJs, and an alarm beeps and vibrates when it senses moisture, waking you and your child so he or she can go to the bathroom.
The first time it went off was a bit shocking, but within a week we were making it through dry. We bought the
Malem Starter Kit that included a book and two waterproof pads. We love the
35” x 35” pads (also available larger). It is so much easier in the middle of the night to switch out the pad than change the whole bed.
Although nighttime accidents our rare for us now, we use a pad when our son is sick and take one along when traveling, just in case.
Price: $89.95 – $99.95 alarms,
$119.95 starter kit

Poll: What Do You Think of a See-Through Potty?
Category:
Children Potty Training Poll
Neither of my daughters wanted anything to do with the whole
toddler potty thing. They preferred hoisting themselves up on the family toilet with a
seat trainer. Who knows, maybe the
Babywunder Deluxe Clear Potty ($21) at the EC store might have done the trick for them. I’m just not sure I love the idea of seeing everything.
I have no problem with the design, a single piece of plastic with a splash guard and handle. The site also brings up a valid point: you know right away what’s going on, so you can give them the appropriate encouragement or feedback. That could shorten the whole hanging out by the potty thing.
On the other hand, my nightmare would be unexpected company right at or after the big moment. EC already has an answer to that one, cute totes and covers ($8).
