Trend Alert: Wooly Crocs Go Mammoth
Category:
Children's Fashion Children's Shoes Poll Trend Alert

Crocs
—you either love ‘em or hate ‘em. I’m in the camp that thinks they’re cute on little feet, and my kid wears them as much as he can. He likes how he can easily slip them on and off, and they’re comfy and lightweight.
They have a new style that’s designed for the cooler weather, the
Mammoth
, and for about $30, your kids can keep their toes nice and toasty with faux fur lining. Yes, you read that correctly fuzzy Crocs. The lining is removable and washable, and they’re supposed to be really fluffy and comfortable.
I’m sure they are, and parents are scooping them up like mad, but if you ask me, they look a little wacky, don’t you? When I think of fur lining I think of
UGGS, not Crocs. Crocs are a summer shoe…you know, something the kids can wear to the beach or the pool or just around the neighborhood. If I wanted something that was cozy and warm, I’d just pick up a real winter boot, and my kid can go back to his regular Crocs when the weather warms up again.
And the Mammoth Crocs for adults? Four words sum it up. I. Don’t. Think. So.

Sleep Like A Baby: Luxurious Organic Baby Blankets from Robbie Adrian
Category:
Children Bed Time Children's Fashion Eco-Chic/Organic Eco-Friendly For the Home Bedroom Trend Alert
What:
Organic Cotton Blankies by Robbie Adrian
Why: The trend in organic textiles is growing daily. Even discount chains are offering organic clothing lines for babies. But here is an upscale
organic blanket that you’d never find in a discount store.
Robbie Adrian presents richly colored, organic cotton baby blankets, edged in natural silk ruffles (or straight edged silk, if you prefer). They are warm in both the physical and the aesthetic. Of course the dyes used are low-impact and free of heavy metals, but nothing is sacrificed in terms of richness of hue.
For discerning parents who want natural fibers free of harmful pesticides, one can’t get any better.
Robbie Adrian ensures that the cotton is 100% organic, all the way back to the bales. Here’s the clincher: the blankets are machine washable and dryable! Eschew those poly-fleece blankets. Why settle? Your baby deserves better.
Price: $55 - $116

Tell Us: Would You Reduce, Reuse, Recyle Your Layette?
Category:
Children's Fashion Eco-Friendly Good Question Hot Topics Poll Trend Alert
Would you rent clothes for your baby?
Here’s a new trend in Europe: rent clothes for your infant. A German company called
Luette Leihen has started a layette rental service. Here’s how it works, for between $23 and $35 per month (17-26 Euros), parents receive a gender-neutral set of clothes. Typically a set has 9-11 pieces, including body suits, socks and hats. As an added incentive, most clothing is made of organic cotton. Then, as your baby outgrows the size, simply exchange for the next size up.
So, is this going to catch on in the US? I must say that the idea of reducing spending, reducing consumer greed and reducing waste is appealing. I know my son had things he wore just once then outgrew. All the same, there is joy to be had in shopping for those special outfits. If you’re committed to the “live simply that others may simply live” lifestyle, this trend is definitely for you. I don’t suppose you could get much lower-impact without dressing your tot in clothes you sewed from old flour sacks. But just for the record, I do dress my son in hand-me-downs, and I pass on what he outgrows to others.

Pregnant? Will You Be Going on a Babymoon?
Category:
Good Question Maternity Travel Trend Alert
I must admit I hadn’t heard of a babymoon until recently. Just in case you’re in the same boat, a babymoon is a pre-baby pampering getaway. The idea is that you’re going to be grounded for a while after your bundle of joy arrives, so you’d better get some special travel time in while you can.
It’s a hot new trend in travel—combining the opportunity to travel to a destination you’ve always wanted to visit, while reveling in your relationship before the focus shifts to the baby. And often, it’s a chance to be the center of attention one last time.
Like a honeymoon, parents-to-be can tailor the trip to meet their interests and needs, and many couples choose a resort or spa. Also like a honeymoon, expect to spend a load on this vacation because you’re probably not just flying out to Niagara Falls for a few days of sightseeing.
I’m now expecting my second child, which makes it even easier to decide against a babymoon. I’d feel selfish and regret spending the money, as if I had it to spare with #2 on the way!
How about you?

Trend Alert: Saving the Environment One Bag at a Time
Category:
Eco-Friendly Mom Bags Fashion Trend Alert
What: Pouch Series Bags by Envirosax
Why: If you’re like me, your intentions are good. You do your best to remember your various bags to take with you to the grocery store, but they’re bulky and mix-matched and take up a lot of space. And after remembering everything else and finally getting the baby into the car seat, sometimes you just forget them hanging in the hall closet.
Envirosax makes it easy; they offer five sturdy and fashionable bags, all rolled up into a handy pouch that slips easily into a pocket or purse. The five of them are large enough for a major food shop, and each opens larger than the size of a large paper grocery bag. They’re easy to clean, a snap to roll up, and I don’t have to soapbox about how beneficial they are to the environment. As you leave the checkout counter you’re bound to get many kudos; they’re both beautiful and functional.
Price: $35 for a pouch with five bags

Trend Alert: Fitness Shoes That Tone Your Legs While You Walk
Category:
Mom Fashion Shoes Trend Alert
The Trend: MBTs
and FitFlops
- Smart, Sporty Shoes for Sexy Legs
Ever since MomFinds first reviewed MBT
sneakers last year, I’ve been obsessed with them and thinking of ways to convince my husband why I need a $250 shoe. When I finally did get them, they were worth every penny and then some.
If you haven’t yet tried them, you absolutely must. It’s like walking on sand (minus the sand), and after just a few minutes, you really start to feel the burn. Wear them while you run your errands, on your lunch break, any time you’re on your feet, and you’ll notice results. Not only will you have better-looking legs (really), but your posture will perk up, too.
The secret is the thick, curved sole that forces you to use every muscle in your body. A few folks have asked if they’re Heelies (uh, no!), and don’t be surprised by the occasional “What is she thinking” stare. Little do they know you’re toning and firming all those loose bits with every step you take. You’ll have the last laugh!
The Brits must be on to something because they’ve come up with yet another fitness shoe that claims to work like MBTs
. Meet FitFlops
, the brand new shoe that sold out within just three days of its launch in May. Women are going crazy for them, and the streets of London are packed with FitFlopped women walking off inches from their thighs.
They’ve made their way stateside, and at only $45, they’ll be flying off the shelves. So if you’re not ready to commit to MBTs, take baby steps with FitFlops, and work your way up. Either way, you’ll be hooked and saving up for your next pair.
The best thing about these shoes? They get you excited about getting back in shape. That, to me, is priceless.
