I made "spin skirts" and capes for the first and all her cousins.

I was on a craft kick for awhile. It has slowed down know though.

The craft I've loved doing most with kids is a paper plate cut into a fish shape (fins and tails in the ruffled/corrugated part of the plate) sprayed with liquid water color from a squirt bottle, then decorated with sequins and spangles when dry.

while i am always crafting for my son and his cousins...the most craftiest was most likely his spider costume i made for his first halloween. it was constructed from my tights and polyfil and shaped and bent to resemble real spider legs and then attached to his back.
i knit things for him, applique, make stuffies and we craft all the time together. he is keenly aware even though still 1 of his mama's love for craft and often points to my yarn and sewing machine and says 'knittin' and 'sew'
love that

The night before Christmas break, I threw together holiday goodie bags for my 4 year old's 16 classmates with handmade candies, fabric kleenex holders, and snowpeople. Crafty goodness, under pressure!!

Posted by oona baker  on  08/08  at  07:45 PM

I guess the most crafts at one time/place would have to be for my 2 year old's 2nd birthday party, which was pony-themed. I designed, printed and glitter-glued 40 invitations, and made all the favors... little felt lollipop covers in the shapes of hobby horses. They were a huge hit, worth all the sleepless nights!

"My Little Angel Of Love"

I gave life to a precious angel just a few short days ago
I love her more than life itself but I loved her enough to let her go
For two short days I held her close in a warm loving embrace
Those beautiful moments in which we bonded my mind will never erase
God gave me a Christian couple that can take care of her every need
But my eyes will always be streaked with tears; my heart will forever bleed
If I could have just one wish our paths will cross again
But I will hold her close in my heart and love her in silence until then
I know I did the right thing. I'm at peace with the Lord above
And I know He will always be watching over "My Little Angel Of Love"

I made a bread basket out of bread dough. After weaving the dough into a basket, it was baked, then shellaced several times after drying each time. It came out so great, and was used for years for special and everyday use!

I have 3 grown children now and as they was growing up I saved everything they did or made little things and as each one finished high school and went out on there own I made them a keepsake book with all kind of stuff in it about them and the family. They loved it..

For my sons 4th birthday we created a dinosaur carnival. Bowling - 2 liter bottles painted as dinosaurs, obstacle course - jump from foot print to foot print, cross a bridge over fire, run through a cave. Dinosaur pinata. Any much more. The kids did not want to leave.

I've made a couple of burp clothes for my son - using regular, white cloth diapers I added strips of fabric to personalize them. It's a pretty easy project and I get tons of questions of where I've "bought" them from other mommies in our Mommy & Me classes.

Posted by Nancy  on  08/09  at  10:47 AM

I was pretty crafty before I was a mom, but I would say that I made a custom sewing toy for my daughter with a sheet of foam, a hole punch and yarn. She practiced for hours and I didn't have to buy some store template!

Posted by Shawna  on  08/09  at  11:30 AM

I love doing crafts! I have a long hallway in my house with no windows, so when my kids are restless I hang a roll of brown mailing paper on the wall and let the kids color on it, they don't color on the walls and it keeps them occupied for a few hours.

"Forever & Ever, Amen"

Over fifty years of marriage. Together till the end.
A type of love these new generations just don't understand
His I.V. died over ten years ago. God gave her wings to fly
With a tear he often spoke of missing her .His love for her would never die
He asked for years to see her again but it wasn't his time to go
So his loyal son checked on him often. Oh how they loved each other so
He finally got his wish today; he's waltzing with his true love
Holding her close in his arms on a cloud way up above
The preacher went to see him just a couple of months ago
He said "your Father will be calling soon. Are you ready to go"
Earnest said "yes preacher. I am ready to meet my God above
But most of all my tears of happiness flow because I will see my only love
She'll be standing there with open arms; a big smile upon her face
I will pick her up and hold her close in a warm and loving embrace"
Now they will never have to worry about being apart again
They have each other enormous love "Forever and Ever; Amen"

"The Rising Of The Sun"

Gazing out across the water as the sun begins to die
The orange ball that once gave light is slowly fading from the sky
The sound of humans have quieted and the waters motion is slow
The crickets have begun their chirping as the wind just lightly blows
The sun has finally vanished now; completing its job for the day
The stars begin to form above the trees that slightly sway
Another day has come and gone. The evening has just begun
But it won't be long till once again "The Rising Of The Sun"

When my daughter was little I made her pink (her favorite color)
pillowcases with "I love you" embroidered on them; they were the last words she saw at night and the first she opened her eyes to in the morning.

When my son was three, he was cast as Blitzen in his pre-school's Christmas pageant. I rigged up a brown felt footed jumpsuit for him, and then combed the wooded areas around our home for stick "antlers." He looked adorable and I was so proud! When I got to the school for the performance, I saw another seven kids in brown felt jumpsuits -- and sticks tied to their heads as antlers!! Well, the performance was wonderful, and no one got an "antler" stick in the eye after all!

Posted by Tanta  on  08/09  at  09:24 PM

I painted my son's crib. Does that count?

Posted by artsweets  on  08/09  at  11:40 PM

Hmmm...right now I'm sewing little adorable lined tote bags from Amy Karol's new book for party favors for my daughter's 2nd bday. For our twins who died we started a book cart at the hospital where they were born, and at the party to collect books we had a table for other babies who had died with origami ribbon fish on decorative wire stands for each, felt hearts with each baby's name embroidered on them, and books to add to the library in their honor.

I made my own mei tai to carry my son. I was surprised that I was able to do it as I usually have a hard time following directions. I also felt that it was secure enough to carry my precious son in!

Posted by Victoria  on  08/10  at  12:43 AM

I made my daughter an adorable crib bumper with scalloped edges. Of course she never used her crib - family bed all the way - but the crib was a beautiful spot to store stuffed animals. I also made several flannel baby blankets with vintage-style fabric.

I made my first ever baby quilt for my now three year old son just before he was born.

My daughter is little and clothes that are appropriate for her age are too big. I use a barrette to hold the shoulder straps on outfits that are too big.

I became a Girl Scout leader. I used Family Fun magazine and familyfun.com for almost everything! We made great wreaths out of paper and used hand prints dipped in paint, glitter and bows, we made Christmas ornaments out of Borax, maracas out of paper mache, so many fun things!

I'm lacking in the craft department. I think the "craftiest" thing I have done in the last year was . . . I made a digital photo album of a family trip we took. We had over 1,000 photos and while it's not exactly a craft . . . it required creativity and took a long itme!

Posted by Laura  on  08/14  at  10:49 AM

I am SO not crafty, but I'm trying. This summer I took so many pictures that I'm working with my middle daughter on a wooden scraphouse/dollhouse to highlite all of our photos with souvenirs from our summer all around.

Posted by Brooke  on  08/14  at  12:45 PM

i am 3 and a half months pregnant and the stack of things i am making/have made for my bebe grows everyday - burping cloths out of vintage cottons, embroidered onsies, an amigurumi rattle, a faux fur patchwork quilt lined with flannel on which fortune cookies read "your future is bright." i have decided to not surround my child with plastic toys - wood, metal, fabric only - and am determined to have most of them made by family and friends so each toy has history and a slice of love from each important person in my child's life.

Posted by Allison Murphy  on  08/14  at  05:04 PM

The craftiest thing I've done as a mom was my daughter's third birthday--Jungle themed. I made elephant-head invitations, lion, monkey and zebra cupcakes, and my daughter and eye made a leopard spot print and printed it on plain lunch bags for the goodie bags. I also did animal face painting on all of the guests.

One thing huh... goodness that's hard as I've done a lot fo crafty things.

I do recall one Halloween though that I made my oldest daughter costume of a camera... she was about 3 or 4 at the time... I know sounds weird.. but it was soo cute.

I took a small cardboard box and sprayed it with black paint, turned it with open end down, took an aluminum pie pan and mounted that to the front of the box, and just so happens that I had a red spray paint lid that I used as the shutter button. I freehanded the word NIKON onto the box, attached a black piece of cord as a strap on one side. I cut holes in the side of the box for my daughter's arms to come out and the hole in the top (old bottom) of the box for her to put her head through. She wore a black sweat suit with. She was totally cute!! I have a picture of her in it I think.

I sewed a crib set for my first son because I didn't like any of the ones in the store. My next pregnancy was twins, and I just wasn't up for making a matched set. sigh...

My daughters love butterflies. I found a spring clothes pin, a sandwich bag and scrap colored tissue paper. They colored the pin, drew some eyes, filled the sandwich bag with the scrap tissue paper, crimped the middle of the sandwich bag in between the clothespin, spread the "wings" and voila a butterfly...they played for a whole hour with it.
